ARTS Rail Transit Exhibition News The light rail transit (LRT) project in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, has ushered in new developments. According to the press office of City Transportation Systems (CTS), the project has introduced an international team of experts and officially launched the implementation phase
CTS has partnered with China's Tianjin Rail Transit Co., Ltd. (TRT) to establish a dedicated department for the launch of the light rail system. TRT, one of the leading operators in the field of urban rail transit systems in China, has sent a team of 16 highly qualified experts to Astana for long-term cooperation with CTS's 12 local experts.
The newly established start-up department is mainly responsible for:
Formulate system operation specifications and technical documents;
training local operation and maintenance personnel in Kazakhstan;
ensure that the light rail system successfully completes the trial operation;
Provide ongoing technical support once the system is operational.
Nikolai Andipov, Director of the CTS Light Rail Activation Department, said that the LRT project is an important milestone in the development of Astana's transportation infrastructure and will introduce advanced solutions to improve the city's mobility. The participation of international partners will not only help accelerate the commissioning process of the system, but also ensure stable and safe operation in the future.
At present, the construction of the maintenance section, which is the key infrastructure of the project, is 50% complete. The Astana LRT line is 22.4 kilometers long, with 18 stations, and 19 trains are planned to be put into operation, each with a capacity of 652 passengers, with an interval of 4 to 5 minutes. The initial average daily passenger flow is expected to be 250,000, with a maximum of 920,000 passengers. The payment method will be the same as the existing urban bus system, and passengers can pay with a transportation card or QR code.
According to the plan, all construction work will be completed by the end of 2025, when the Astana Light Rail will be officially put into operation.
