Rail Transit Expo News: La Matanza, Buenos Aires Province is studying the introduction of a new urban public transportation system. Recently, the Rammatansa municipal government signed a memorandum of understanding with CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Vehicle Co., Ltd., under which both parties will conduct evaluation and technical cooperation around advanced urban transportation technologies.

Fernando Espinoza, Mayor of La Matanza, recently signed relevant documents with representatives of CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. According to reports, the main purpose of this collaboration is to research innovative solutions suitable for future public transport projects in Ramatansa.
During the exchange, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen focused on introducing its DRT digital rail rubber-tired tram. This system uses rubber-tired running and can operate under existing urban road conditions, combining the high capacity characteristics of trams with the high operational flexibility of the bus system, providing a new technological option for urban public transportation.

According to information disclosed by local media, the DRT uses a fast-charging energy storage system, with a single vehicle carrying over 300 passengers and supporting bidirectional operation. Vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technology can operate guided via magnetic markers or virtual tracks, eliminating the need for traditional railway rails and allowing deployment in conjunction with existing urban roads and transportation corridors.
CRRC Nanjing Puzhen has previously developed a variety of urban rail transit product platforms, including subways, intercity EMUs, modern trams, digitally guided rubber-wheeled low-floor trains, monorail, and APM, and has mastered core technologies such as autonomous driving. Among them, the DRT digital track rubber-tired tram has already been put into demonstration use in China. This model adopts digital guidance technology and rubber-tired wheels, eliminating the need for traditional rails and overhead wires, reducing infrastructure construction needs, and featuring flexible grouping and short construction cycles.
This collaboration is also related to Ramatansa's ongoing plan to build a technologically innovative city. Currently, the local technology park (Polo Científico y Tecnológico) is entering the final stages of construction, with the local government simultaneously researching supporting solutions for transportation, infrastructure, technology, and digital connectivity.

According to local plans, the project aims to further strengthen the synergy between technological innovation and urban infrastructure, supporting the creation of innovative city projects for Argentina and Latin America. Ramatansar stated that introducing and researching new urban transportation technologies is an important part of improving the modernization, operational efficiency, and sustainable development of urban transportation locally. They hope to improve internal urban connectivity through new transportation solutions and adapt to the travel demands brought by continuous population and urban growth.

It should be noted that the current signing of a memorandum of understanding is a cooperation memorandum, and the project is still in the technical evaluation and feasibility study stages.
