News of the Rail Transit Exhibition Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin signed an agreement with Transmashholding to supply 704 vehicles with the designation Moskva-2026 to the Russian capital.
The agreement also includes the repair and maintenance of 704 vehicles by TMH under a 30-year life-cycle contract.
On June 19, the manufacturer signed a new metro design at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The scheme is based on the "Moscow-2024" metro train with minor improvements. These improvements include a new headlight design and a feature that automatically reduces the brightness of the lights when making a pit stop. The interior colours of the cabins will also be updated, and transparent displays will be installed on the side windows. The batch of metro cars is expected to be delivered in 2026-27 and is planned to be deployed on the Zamoskvoretskaya and Troitskaya lines.
The two sides also signed an agreement covering strategic cooperation. The agreement covers the supply of more metro cars to the Russian capital by 2030.
In a statement, Sobyanin's office said: "In recent years, the rate of renewal of vehicles in the Moscow metro has been one of the leading in Europe. This is largely due to the mutually beneficial cooperation between the municipality and the Russian Holding of Railways Transport Machinery (Transmashholding). "Since 2010, the proportion of modern vehicles in the fleet of the Moscow metro has increased almost sixfold, from about 13% to more than 77%. Last year, the new, more comfortable Moscow-2024 series of trains entered service on the Moscow Riverside Line and the Moscow Line 3, which were developed with the needs of passengers and drivers in mind. A total of 288 vehicles were procured in 2024, with a further 272 planned for later in 2025. ”
