Since February, the second phase of the China-Thailand high-speed railway project has been approved by the Thai government; China and Mongolia signed an agreement on the construction of a cross-border railway at the Ganqimaodu-Gashusuhaitu port; The Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong railway project of the China-Vietnam cross-border railway was approved by the National Assembly of Vietnam; The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway has also launched a bidding for preliminary projects.
The second phase of the Sino-Thai railway project
On February 4, the Thai government held a cabinet meeting to approve the second phase of the Sino-Thai railway cooperation project.
The second phase of the Sino-Thai Railway Cooperation Project (Nakhon Ratchasima-Nong Khai Section) has a total length of 357.12 kilometers and a construction budget of 341.351 billion baht. After receiving the approval of the Thai Cabinet, the project will start bidding and construction within the year, and is scheduled to be put into operation in 2031.
It is reported that on July 11, 2017, the Thai Cabinet approved the implementation of the first phase of the Sino-Thai railway cooperation project in Bangkok (Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima) by the National Railways of Thailand. The first phase is about 253 kilometers long, with a budget investment of 179.413 billion baht and a construction period of 4 years (2017-2020). The overall progress of the project is currently only 35.74% complete, and it is expected to be operational in 2031.
Ganqimaodu-Gashusuhaitu Port Cross-border Railway
On February 14, the governments of China and Mongolia signed a historic cooperation agreement. The agreement focuses on the construction of the cross-border railway between Ganqimaodu-Gashusuhaitu and combines it with coal trade and the upgrading of coal mining capacity in Tawang Tolgoi, creating a "three-in-one" strategic cooperation framework.
The railway connects the Ganqimaodu port in Inner Mongolia and the Gashusuhaitu port in Mongolia, with a total length of 234 kilometers, of which 8.08 kilometers are cross-border sections, including 5.44 kilometers of bridge facilities. The railway has a design capacity of 30 million to 50 million tons per year, and operates in parallel in broad gauge and quasi-gauge to adapt to the different railway gauges of China and Mongolia.Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Project
The 9th Extraordinary Session of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam voted on February 19 to adopt a resolution on the investment policy of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project. When completed, the railway will connect the northern provinces of Vietnam with the southwest region of China. According to the resolution, the total length of the main railway line is about 390.9 kilometers, and the length of the three branch lines is about 27.9 kilometers.The project plans to build an electrified railway for both passengers and freight with a track gauge of 1,435 mm, with a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour for the section from Tan Lao Cai Station to Nan Hai Phong Station on the main line, 120 kilometers per hour for the hub section of Hanoi, and 80 kilometers per hour for the rest of the sections. The feasibility study report will be prepared from 2025 and will be completed by 2030 at the latest.
China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway
Recently, the Kyrgyzstan Branch of China Railway International Co., Ltd. issued the "Announcement on the Prequalification of the General Contracting Project for the Construction of Three Tunnels in the Early Construction Section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway (Kyrgyz Republic Section)", marking the official start of construction of the advanced project of the Kyrgyzstan section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway.The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a landmark project of the Belt and Road cooperation jointly promoted by the heads of state of China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and a strategic project for the interconnection between China and Central Asia.The project starts in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, enters Kyrgyzstan through the Turgat Pass, and then travels west through the Kyrgyz border city of Jalalabad and finally to Andijan, a city in eastern Uzbekistan.
