Hitachi Railway, the European rolling stock and rail infrastructure division of Japan's cross-industry company, has announced a partnership with NVIDIA to launch its new "AI solution".

The "HMAX" (Hyper-Mobile Asset Specialist) family of "digital asset management solutions" will cover the railway chain from rolling stock and signaling to physical infrastructure.

All products will be "driven" by NVIDIA's IGX AI platform.

The tools are said to be based on existing technology that Hitachi Rail currently uses to remotely assess its assets and make improvements. "The HMAX platform is a leap forward because real-time data collection combined with powerful AI technology greatly increases the speed, simplicity and depth of analysis," the company explains. ”Hitachi Rail's customers will be able to remotely access HMAX's insights across their entire rail network through a single online portal, an ecosystem known as "EdgeHitachi Rail, CEO Giuseppe Marino added: "At Hitachi Rail, we believe that AI has immediate and very effective applications that will make rail operations more efficient. Our AI-powered digital asset management is a solution to optimize our customers' rail services and improve railway performance. "We're excited to partner with NVIDIA, which will combine the power of AI with advanced Hitachi rail technology to improve rail efficiency for operators." "Edge-to-cloud".

NVIDIA says the technology will allow field operations engineers to leverage insights in real-time thanks to its XGX program and Holoscan's "sensor processing platform." This means that the data will be processed and analyzed on the train or in the signaling center, rather than being transmitted to the data or operations center, reducing the time and expense associated with engineering analysis.

"This has led to an unprecedented increase in the speed at which actionable insights can be communicated to transport operators, which previously could take up to ten days to process data at maintenance sites," the partners explained. ”

"Rail is at the forefront of the latest paradigm shift in the digital transformation of AI," said Yogesh Agrawal, vice president of NVIDIA's data center business. Hitachi Rail's HMAX solution, powered by NVIDIA IGX and Holoscan, will provide the real-time computing capabilities needed to help improve the manageability, security, and availability of rail systems to meet the needs of operators and today's travelers. ”
