On June 18, the China (Chongqing) Monorail Development Achievement Exhibition and Promotion Conference and the 2025 International Monorail (Chongqing) Sustainable Development Forum (hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Conference and Forum) hosted by the Monorail Branch of China Urban Rail Transit Association and Chongqing (International) Monorail Association were held in Chongqing. As one of the guiding units, Zhou Xiaoqin, executive vice president of China Urban Rail Transit Association, Le Mei, rotating president, secretary of the Party committee and chairman of Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd., Zhong Jianhua, vice president, and Wang Yanping, chairman of the board of supervisors and deputy secretary general, attended the meeting.
The conference focused on presenting the 20 years of innovation achievements of Chongqing monorail, and invited international guests such as Ren Weimin, Director of the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Yang Dejun, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hanoi, Vietnam, as well as government representatives, industry experts and partners from 19 countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Italy, Thailand, relevant ministries and commissions, Chongqing Municipal Government, industry associations, About 300 people, including industrial chain enterprises and rail transit experts, participated in the event, which became an important exchange event in the field of global monorail transportation.
Bao Xuding, the founding president of the association, delivered a video speech. He pointed out that Chongqing Monorail Line 2 is the first urban rail transit in Chongqing, the first urban rail transit in the western region, and the first monorail in the country. He reviewed the development of Chongqing's monorail and recalled his unique feelings about the only urban rail transit line he participated in the construction and hands-on practice of China's urban rail transit development work for 27 years. He said that Chongqing, a mountain city and water city, is a place where monorail traffic gallops vertically and horizontally, with a broad space for development, and hopes that Chongqing monorail will have a better tomorrow.
Zhou Xiaoqin delivered a speech. Focusing on the technological innovation and future direction of monorail transit, he shared development experience and discussed cooperation paths from the perspective of sustainable and high-quality development of urban rail transit. He believes that the current global urban rail transit is generally facing financial sustainability challenges, and the whole industry needs to face the challenges, and monorail is one of the favorable options to promote the solution of the financial sustainability problems of global rail transit. On this basis, the innovative breakthrough of China's monorail technology provides a replicable "Chinese experience" for similar cities around the world. At the same time, technological innovation has given rise to the implementation of multiple scenarios, the monorail system has broken through the traditional commuting function, and the application map is expanding, further expanding the application scope of the monorail transportation system. He pointed out that in the face of the climate crisis and the wave of urbanization, the monorail system needs to work together with its peers around the world to contribute to global sustainable transportation.
Zheng Huaiyu, Deputy Director of China International Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center, and Shi Jidong, Chairman of Chongqing Urban Transport Development and Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., delivered speeches successively, depicting the blueprint for the sustainable development of China's monorail from the perspectives of national policy guidance, industry development trends, and urban travel demands.
Xue Shengchao, deputy general manager of Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd. and Chongqing Rail Transit Operation Co., Ltd., gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Crossing from Liziba to the World", and reviewed the development of Chongqing Monorail from the aspects of "Origin: Rail Transit Breakthrough in the City of Mountains and Rivers", "Leapfrogging: From 0 to the World's Best", "Integration: Symbiotic Aesthetics of Rail and City", "Sustainability: Long-term Layout of Innovative Development" and "Prospects: Monorail and the 'Future' Covenant".
The promotion meeting and forum also held the launch ceremony of the new generation straddle monorail (panda car). As the world's first intelligent straddle monorail, Panda Car shows the scientific and technological innovation achievements of Chongqing's fourth-generation monorail iterative upgrading, which makes a footnote for Chongqing's monorail technology to enter a new stage of development, the complete layout of Chongqing's monorail industry chain, and demonstrates Chongqing's innovative strength in building a national important advanced manufacturing center. It is understood that the unique panda shape and vehicle interior decoration of the new generation of straddle monorail will bring passengers a refreshing experience; The train is equipped with three core platform systems of network control, passenger information service and safety monitoring, and adopts lightweight materials such as carbon fiber materials, recyclable materials, permanent magnet motors, high-frequency auxiliary inverters, intelligent lighting, intelligent environmental protection air conditioners and energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, integrates cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, green and low-carbon, and intelligent operation and maintenance, and has carried out all-round upgrades in terms of comfort, convenience and interactivity, which can provide Chongqing solutions and show China's wisdom for the construction of low-capacity and cost-effective rail transit in global cities.
At the same time, the signing ceremony of the Chongqing Monorail Transit Cooperation Agreement and the unveiling ceremony of the "Rail Transit Center of the National Engineering Laboratory for Advanced Microprocessor Technology" were also held.
In the discussion session of the industry development trend stage, Ren Weimin, Director of the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, gave a speech entitled "From Policy to Practice: Promoting Sustainable Transport Development in the Asia-Pacific Region", Zhou Hongyi, Founder of 360 Group, gave a speech entitled "AI Helps Rail Transit: From 'Responding to Challenges' to 'Foreseeing the Future'", and Ou Xinquan, Director of the Infrastructure Institute of China Center for Urban Reform and Development, gave a speech entitled "Research on Key Issues in the Development of Urban Rail Transit in China". Jia Wenzheng, Deputy Director of the Transportation Development Innovation Center of the China International Innovation and Knowledge Center for Sustainable Transportation, shared his thoughts and suggestions on the sustainable development of monorail transportation from different perspectives in the context of the era of digital intelligence empowerment.
Focusing on a global perspective, the promotion conference and forum invited international counterparts to discuss the future of monorail and discuss the new mechanism of exchange and cooperation on straddle monorail sustainable transportation technology. Nguyen Gao Minh, General Manager of the Hanoi City Railway Management Committee of Vietnam, said in his speech that monorail is becoming a flexible and viable strategic option, especially for fast-growing Asian cities like Hanoi. Hanoi attaches great importance to cooperation with the international community, especially with a well-established partner like China.
Wu Jiahong, general manager of Chongqing Urban Transport Development and Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., read out the proposal on the establishment of a "sustainable straddle monorail technology exchange and cooperation mechanism", and jointly launched the "sustainable straddle monorail technology exchange and cooperation mechanism" with the initiator of "mutual recognition of standards, ecological co-construction, and scene co-creation".
In the afternoon, the opening ceremony of the 2025 International Monorail (Chongqing) Sustainable Development Forum and the Global Sustainable Transportation People-to-People Exchange Advanced Training Program and the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Monorail Branch of the China Urban Rail Transit Association were held at the same time.
