As one of the most iconic buildings of the São Paulo metro system, the Operations Control Center (CCO), located near the Vergueiro station, has always attracted attention for its gold-toned glass façade and its important position as the "nerve center" of the operation of the metro line.

Today, São Paulo Metro is in the midst of a major command infrastructure upgrade project with the construction of a new Operation Control Center Experience (CCOx) to replace the existing Control Center that has been in operation for more than 50 years. The company recently released a preview image of the project.

Modernize to meet the challenges of the future

A new control center space is under construction and is designed to meet the current and future challenges of metro operations. The project invested in modern equipment to create a working environment with greater flexibility, performance and comfort.

Extra-large visualization system

A highlight of the new control center is the continuous visualization panel, the so-called "video wall", which is about 36 meters wide and more than 3 meters high, consisting of 90 55-inch displays with 4K resolution.

This structure will enable simultaneous monitoring of various areas of the network, providing high-definition image display with no visible bezels between the displays. The installation of the display is scheduled to be completed between August and September this year.

Intelligent workstation design

The CCOx will also be equipped with 56 newly designed workstations. Unlike traditional fixed-location designs, each operator can access their tools and systems from any console with personalized authentication. Each workstation is equipped with ergonomic furniture and the latest equipment, including mini PCs, adjustable panels, and full integration with network and power systems.

Dedicated data centers

The entire system will be managed by a new dedicated data center with storage and processing power far beyond the existing infrastructure. The center will be equipped with 80 servers with a total memory capacity of nearly 8TB and a storage capacity of more than 76TB, ensuring faster response times for operational decisions.

Project Prospects

The CCOx project is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025 and will be the core of the operation and management of the São Paulo metro system for decades to come, providing citizens with more reliable and efficient metro services.
