Singapore Inter-Island Line Phase II Civil Works and Power Supply Contract

On August 15, Singapore Land Transport Management LTA completed the key contract award for the second phase of the CRL of the cross-island line, including the last civil contract and power supply system contract. The S$199 million (US$150 million) civil contract was awarded by Sinohydro Singapore for the construction of a 1.4-kilometre two-hole tunnel from Mayu Station (CR16) to Clementian Station (CR17). The project is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the goal of completing and launching passenger services in 2032.

→ this section of the road will cross important infrastructure such as the Sungai Ulubandan Canal, and the geological conditions are dominated by hard sedimentary rock, which is difficult to construct. The contractor will use a slurry balance shield machine for tunnelling, and implement safety measures such as real-time monitoring to ensure the safety of the project and the stability of the surrounding environment.

At the same time, LTA awarded a US$400 million contract to a consortium of Siemens Mobility and Singapore electrical systems supplier Concord to design, supply, install, test and commission CRL's power supply system. The system will cover 66 kV and 22 kV alternating current systems as well as 1,500 volt DC systems to support CRL's high capacity needs.

→ Cross Island Line, the eighth MRT line in Singapore, will connect the Eastern, Northeast and Western Corridors, connecting key hubs such as Jurong Lakes, Punggol Digital and Changi. The whole line adopts an underground scheme and is constructed in three phases. The first phase of the project, announced in 2019, is 29 kilometers long, with 12 stations, and is targeted to be completed by 2030. The second phase of the project, announced in 2022, is about 15 kilometres long with six underground stations. The third phase of the project is still undergoing preliminary studies, and relevant details will be announced after the completion of the study.
