Rail Transit Expo News: Recently, Qingdao Metro piloted the first batch of low-altitude integrated rail stations at Shilaoren Bathhouse Station, May Fourth Square Station, and Maidao Station, converting the roofs of accessible metro elevators into drone automatic nest platforms, exploring new paths for reusing existing facilities and lightweight construction of low-altitude infrastructure.
This upgrade marks the first time Qingdao Metro has installed drone nests on already operational lines. The project relies on existing structures to complete the construction of low-altitude supporting facilities, revitalizing existing station space while reducing construction costs and implementation cycles. After the upgrade, drones can achieve autonomous takeoff and landing, intelligent cruising, and real-time high-definition image transmission. Flight data is synchronized with the low-altitude flight management service center, enabling intelligent control during flight.
After the integrated station is put into use, it will serve urban supervision, urban security, and emergency response scenarios, regularly conducting city appearance inspections, subway protection zone patrols, and coastal ecological monitoring. In cases such as flood season, sudden fires, or tourist congestion, drones can transmit first-person footage back to the emergency command end to help shorten response times.
According to the plan, Qingdao Metro will further extend drone takeoff and landing facilities to vehicle depots and parking lots, linking them with public spaces such as city parks and citizen squares to promote a broader network of low-altitude intelligent facilities. Qingdao Metro stated that it will use the construction of this demonstration station as a starting point to continue promoting the integrated development of "rail transit + low-altitude economy."
