On September 9, during the "Belt and Road Forum," MTR Corporation signed five memorandums of understanding with multiple companies from mainland China, Vietnam, and Malaysia, focusing on overseas rail transit markets and jointly exploring railway, transit-oriented development (TOD) and integrated community development projects in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
In cooperation with mainland enterprises, MTR and China Railway Construction (Hong Kong) will jointly explore rail transit projects in Central Asia; Cooperation with CRRC (Hong Kong) focuses on railway development opportunities in the Middle East; The cooperation with PowerChina International Engineering Company focuses on the Vietnam metro project.

The other two memorandums of understanding are aimed at Vietnam's rail transit and TOD markets. Among them, MTR's collaboration with SonKim Land Corporation and Gamuda Land (HCMC) Joint Stock Company focuses on TOD development opportunities in Vietnam; The cooperation with Sovico Group Joint Stock Company covers Vietnam's metro and TOD development.

A relevant official from MTR Corporation stated that they hope to combine MTR's experience in railway specialization and integrated community development with the engineering capabilities of mainland enterprises, jointly exploring overseas markets through a "ship-pooling" approach. Such cooperation will further leverage Hong Kong's role as a "super connector" and "super value-added person," consolidating Hong Kong's platform role in the construction of the "Belt and Road."
MTR has over 45 years of experience in railway project development, with business covering the entire process of design, planning, construction, operation, and maintenance. In addition to railway operations, MTR also participates in community development along the railway line through integrated railway and property development. Currently, MTR employs over 46,000 people in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas, with a global average daily passenger volume exceeding 13 million.
