Seven locomotives from CRRC Ziyang arrived in Cameroon and will serve Minim Martap bauxite rail tran

Rail Transit Expo News: Canyon Resources recently announced that seven locomotives manufactured by CRRC Ziyang have arrived in Cameroon and will be deployed for rail logistics from the Minim Martap bauxite project to the port.

According to reports, these locomotives arrived at Douala Port in Cameroon in June 2026 and were delivered to Canyon Resources' local subsidiary, Camalco Cameroon. Currently, the commissioning, performance testing, and driver training of the related locomotives have begun to prepare for the first batch of railway transportation for the project.

Vehicles paired with locomotives are also being delivered one after another. The first batch of 60 trucks has already left the factory and is expected to arrive in Cameroon by mid-August 2026; An additional 100 trucks are scheduled to arrive in Douala by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

According to the first phase of the project, the railway fleet will consist of 7 locomotives and 160 freight cars, expected to have a rail transport capacity of about 35,000 tons of wet tons of bauxite per month.

The second phase of the project plans to further upgrade railway infrastructure and additionally purchase 15 locomotives and 400 freight cars. Whether this phase can be implemented will depend on whether the approximately $160 million in additional financing can be finalized.

The Minim Martap bauxite project, located in Cameroon, is one of Canyon Resources' key mineral development initiatives. With locomotives and freight cars gradually in place, the construction of the project's railway logistics system has entered a substantive preparation stage, providing new cases for Chinese rail transit equipment companies to participate in the African mining transportation market.
