On May 16, the first phase of the Astana Light Rail Transit project, Central Asia's first fully automated urban rail transit line with participation from Tianjin Rail Transit Group, officially began operations.

Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inspected the unified dispatch center and attended the opening ceremony of the Astana light rail.

The first phase of the Astana Light Rail is 21.39 kilometers long, featuring 18 stations and passing through landmarks and important areas such as the International Airport, Nazarbayev University, Expo Park, Abu Dhabi Square, Beijing Towers, the Presidential Palace, the National Museum, and the new train station. As the first urban rail transit line in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the Astana Light Rail will greatly optimize the local transportation structure, activate the economic arteries along the route, improve the efficiency and quality of travel for citizens, and support the modernization of Astana's urban development

The Astana Light Rail trains operate daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The trains are 60 meters long, 3.8 meters high, and 2.8 meters wide, consisting of four carriages, with a maximum passenger capacity exceeding 600 people per trainThe vehicle body is treated for noise reduction and sound insulation. Supports multiple smart payment methods; passengers can pay not only with LRT-exclusive transportation cards and single tickets, but also via bank cards, mobile phones, and smartwatches.

The first phase of the Astana Light Rail project is the first modern light rail project in Central Asia to fully adopt Chinese standards and equipment. Tianjin Rail Transit Group leverages the local unique geographical and climatic conditions, from selecting special engineering materials, upgrading cold-resistant equipment, innovating track laying techniques, to snow removal and snow melting operation and maintenance measures, Extreme weather driving organization establishes a comprehensive technical support system, overcoming operational challenges of tracks, vehicles, and signaling systems in extremely cold and low-temperature environments, and eliminating safety hazards caused by thermal expansion and contraction in extreme temperature differencesChinese technology and Tianjin solutions have contributed to the construction of light rail in the world's cold regions.
