On March 4, 2026, the construction of the Bogotá Metro Line 1 project in Colombia reached another important milestone. Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán officially announced that the eighth fully automated driverless train for the project had successfully arrived in the port of Cartagena. This signifies that the delivery of vehicles for the country's first metro line is progressing steadily according to plan, bringing it one step closer to the goal of commercial operation in 2028.

Across the ocean, seamless connection

According to official sources, the eighth train, after completing manufacturing and factory testing in China, arrived in Colombia by sea across the Pacific Ocean. The train has now been unloaded at the port of Cartagena and will subsequently be transported by land to the Bosa depot south of Bogotá. Upon arrival, technicians will assemble the trains and immediately conduct static and dynamic functional tests to ensure their performance meets operational standards.

The train for this project was developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., and is one of the most technologically advanced rail transit equipment in Latin America. Train specifications: 6-car formation, 135 meters long, 2.90 meters wide, and 3.90 meters high.

Passenger capacity: The maximum passenger capacity of a single train is up to 1,800 people, designed specifically for the high-density commuting needs of Bogotá.

Core technology: Equipped with GoA4 level fully automated driverless driving function, it can achieve unattended automatic operation in the initial stage of operation, which greatly improves dispatching efficiency and safety.

Fleet size: The Bogota Metro Line 1 is planned to have a total of 30 trains of the same model. Eight trains have been delivered so far, and the remaining trains will be delivered in batches according to the established schedule.

Project progress: Over 70% complete, aiming for 2028!
