According to a recent announcement on social media by Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek, the Astana Light Rail ( LRT ) project is progressing through testing and is expected to officially begin operation this spring.

Kasimbek stated that he, along with Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar , inspected the light rail depot and learned about the construction and operational readiness of the Unified Dispatch Center, a crucial component of the project . This center will serve as the core platform for the management and coordination of the city's transportation system.

According to reports, the dispatch center will undertake several key functions, including:
Light rail train operation scheduling and management;
Coordinated control of traffic lights in urban intelligent transportation systems;
Public transportation dispatching and operation management;
Urban shared bicycle system dispatching;
Traffic data processing and analysis, etc.
During this inspection, relevant personnel also checked several stations, including the "Airport Station," " Bayterekta Station ," "Ministry Building," and "National Museum ." Currently, the entire line is undergoing trial operation according to the established testing plan.

The testing included a comprehensive inspection of the line's infrastructure and system safety performance, as well as training for operational personnel and emergency response drills. The project team stated that the light rail trains were specifically designed for the climate of Central Asia , enabling them to adapt to low-temperature environments and resist freezing.

Furthermore, the Astana light rail trains will operate without drivers . Once project testing is complete and the system meets technical requirements, the official passenger operation date will be determined. According to current plans, the Astana light rail is expected to open for operation within the next few months (this spring) .
Meanwhile, the training program for Astana Light Rail dispatching experts, organized by Tianjin Rail Transit Group, successfully concluded in Tianjin. The graduation ceremony was held at the Holiday Inn Express Heping, a subsidiary of the group. The unforgettable learning journey in Tianjin came to a successful end.
