According to news from the rail transit exhibition , CRRC Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. recently signed a procurement agreement with Sun Group to provide 14 customized light rail trains for the first phase of the Phu Quoc Island Light Rail (LRT) project in Vietnam . These trains will utilize advanced technology and meet current international top-tier quality standards.

The 2027 APEC summit is scheduled to be held on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam (belonging to An Giang Province). To ensure the smooth running of the summit, An Giang Province has been tasked with implementing 21 key APEC supporting projects , with a total investment of approximately VND 13,713.8 billion . Among these, the first phase of the Phu Quoc Island light rail project has been approved for implementation under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model , with the Sun Group as the project owner and a total investment of nearly VND 900 billion .
The first phase of the city light rail project ( Phu Quoc International Airport – APEC Meeting and Exhibition Center ) is a strategically important transportation infrastructure project on Phu Quoc Island, playing a key role in guiding urban spatial layout, driving regional development, and cultivating new growth drivers.
The line will seamlessly connect Phu Quoc International Airport, the APEC Conference and Exhibition Center, and the core cultural, tourism, leisure, and entertainment areas in the southern part of the island. Following the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model , it will effectively enhance the land value and overall benefits along the route.
At the same time, Phu Quoc Island will become the first city in Vietnam to have a light rail (LRT) system , demonstrating its clear goal of building a green, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly public transportation system.
Elevated section : 0.78 kilometers
Ground section : 14.81 km
Underground section : 2 kilometers
The entire line has a total of 6 stations , including 1 underground station and 5 surface stations .
The trains are 3-car light rail trains with a design speed of 70–100 km/h and a maximum one-way capacity of approximately 4,500 passengers per hour .
The entire line consists of 14 trains , each with 3 carriages. To ensure the smooth hosting of APEC 2027, the first batch of trains is scheduled to arrive in Phu Quoc Island in January 2027 , fully demonstrating CRRC Dalian's comprehensive strength in production organization, delivery capabilities, and contract fulfillment.
