Rail Transit Show News On September 24, 2025, 11 new FLIRT intercity EMUs were ordered by Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurth Railway Company (GySEV). The final design has been finalized, which will allow body production to start this fall at Stadler's plant in Solnok, Hungary.
According to the contract, this batch of five-marshalling and dual-voltage EMUs will be produced under a purchase agreement in March 2024, which is the first time in nearly 30 years that Hungary has purchased a new intercity EMU. Previously, GySEV had introduced 20 FLIRT regional EMUs between 2013 and 2018.
The first vehicles are expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2027 and will be fully delivered in early Q1 2028.
The new car will have 1st and 2nd class seats and will offer a seasonally variable interior layout
Summer: Up to 18 bikes;
Winter: The carriage layout will be adjusted to increase seating capacity.
Each train is designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h and fully complies with current international energy efficiency standards.
The vehicle design was done by GySEV, Stadler and the Innova Design Team. The exterior is painted in silver with GySEV's signature green and yellow corporate colors; The interior materials include metal, glass and oak finishes, with neutral tones that emphasize functionality and comfort.

Production and operations planning
Stadler's Hungarian plant will produce 55 bodies for the new car. Once delivered, the vehicle will be used mainly on the long-distance lines of Soprang – Budapest and Sombothey – Budapest, with dual voltage capability Cross-border operation to Austria.
The project further enriches the Stadler FLIRT fleet in Hungary. Since 2002, Stadler has sold more than 2,750 FLIRT EMUs in 21 countries. In Hungary, 20 trains are currently serving GySEV and 123 are serving MÁV. To date, the Stade-Sornock plant has been involved in the production of nearly 1,000 FLIRT EMUs, with more than 3,880 bodies assembled.
