South Korea announced that it has successfully localized the automatic driving communication device

Rail Transit Exhibition News The Korea Railroad Technology Research Institute announced that it has successfully realized the localization of communication devices for automatic light rail driving and completed trial operation on actual trains. This achievement not only replaces the previously relied on overseas imported products, but also achieves significant improvements in performance and stability, and is expected to ensure sufficient backup equipment reserves.

According to the Railway Research Institute, this research and development was jointly carried out by it and Humedia to carry out localization research on the photoelectric conversion ground transceiver for the automatic driving of the Longin Everline light rail train, and has successfully completed the trial operation on the train.

This device plays a key role in the autonomous driving system: it is linked with the ground control device to realize the interaction of speed, speed limit, driving authorization and other information between the train. The system consists of the main control device and the remote device. The main control device receives the RF signal from the ground control device and converts it into optical conversion, and then transmits it to multiple remote devices along the line. The remote device converts the signal back into an RF signal and transmits it to the train.

Previously, South Korea had been relying on overseas products, but due to the discontinuation of related equipment and the lack of sufficient spare parts, the need for localized R&D was very urgent.

The new device developed by the Railway Research Institute is 100% compatible with the original imported equipment, with the same function and optimized performance: the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has been increased to more than 20dB, while the heat dissipation, moisture resistance and maintenance convenience have been improved, making the automatic operation of the train more stable and reliable.

After installing localized equipment and conducting trial operation, the measured results showed that the reception sensitivity increased by about 16dB, and the signal transmission and reception success rate was significantly higher than that of imported products.

The institute expects that this achievement will effectively replace imported products and alleviate the shortage of spare equipment. At the same time, due to the significant improvement in the reliability and maintainability of the device, train operations will be more efficient and safe in the future.

The R&D project is led by the Railway Research Institute under the National Science and Technology Research Council (NST) and jointly implemented with Yongin Light Rail, Yongin Everline Operating Company and Humedia Company.

Kim Jeong-tae, director of the Train Control and Communication Research Office of the Railway Research Institute, said: "We have successfully applied high-quality communication component manufacturing and testing technology to the railway field and completed the localization of this key device. In the future, we plan to extend this result to other lines using similar equipment in Japan and abroad. ”
