BYD Cloud Rail landed in São Paulo! The first test ride of the governor of São Paulo Metro Line 17!

Rail Transit Exhibition News This Monday (July 28), the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, accompanied by representatives of the São Paulo Metro Company (Metrô) and BYD's subsidiary SkyRail São Paulo, visited Metro Line 17 (Linha 17- Ouro) construction site. The line, which uses BYD's "Cloud Rail" SkyRail monorail system, is expected to be operational in 2026 and will connect Congonhas Airport with Lines 5 (Purple) and 9 (Turquoise Line) managed by ViaMobilidade, It can serve about 100,000 passengers per day.

During the visit, the governor and his delegation toured the tunnel between the completed airport and the future Congonhas station, and took a SkyRail train from Washington Luís to Vereador José Diniz station for a test ride to see the autonomous train in action.

The governor pointed out that since the restart of the project in September 2023, the overall progress of the project has increased from 61.22% to 83.69%, with the completion of key subsystems such as power systems, electronics, communications, and signaling systems jumping by more than 50 percentage points.

Advanced technology empowers urban rail transit

Metro Line 17 has a total length of 6.7 kilometers and a total of 8 stations, which will be equipped with 14 fully automatic trains with five cars。 The trains use CBTC (Communication Train Control System) technology, which can achieve higher operating efficiency and shorter departure intervals. Each train can accommodate up to 616 passengers, the carriages are equipped with accessible spaces, air conditioning systems, LED lighting and can rely on built-in batteries in case of power outages up to 8 km, to ensure emergency operation.

Two trains have already arrived in Brazil and are in the testing phase, two more are waiting to be unloaded at the port of Santos, and the rest are still in production in China. The governor revealed, "From March next year, we will start auxiliary operations (operational verification phase) and plan to officially enter commercial operations in the second half of the year." ”
