Rail Transit ExhibitionNews CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd. has completed the production of a hybrid shunting locomotive CKD6H designed specifically for Kazakhstan. This modern locomotive is tailor-made to cope with extreme weather and environmental protection needs, demonstrating CRRC's innovative strength in the field of railway equipment.
CKD6H: Designed for extreme environments
The CKD6H locomotive was manufactured in Ziyang, Sichuan Province and is expected to be delivered to Kazakhstan in June. From design, assembly to testing, the entire production process took only 14 months, demonstrating efficient manufacturing capabilities. The locomotive is able to operate stably in extremely low temperatures as low as -50°C, adopts a hybrid system that combines diesel engine and battery, and is equipped with an intelligent energy management system, reducing fuel consumption by more than 45%.
In addition, the noise level of the CKD6H is reduced by 80% and emissions are halved compared to the existing locomotives of the Kazakh State Railways (KTZ), which significantly improves environmental performance. These properties make it ideal for shunting operations in the northern regions of Kazakhstan, combining high performance with low environmental impact.
Excellent performance for changing conditions
CRRC Ziyang said that the CKD6H locomotive can still maintain a stable power output under low temperature and variable load conditions, ensuring high reliability and flexibility of operation. This design is designed to meet the operational needs of Kazakhstan's complex geography and climate.
An important milestone in the cooperation between CRRC and KTZ
As part of the 200-unit contract between CRRC and KTZ, the launch of the CKD6H marks a further deepening of the cooperation between the two parties. Previously, CRRC had delivered the first mainline electric locomotive, CEA1, to the TTT-Service of SilkwayTransit, a subsidiary of KTZ. In 2025, CRRC plans to supply 90 locomotives to Kazakhstan, including diesel locomotives for trunk lines and shunting vehicles, with a total investment of about 300 million US dollars.
CRRC continues to cultivate the Central Asian market
CRRC Ziyang continues to expand its presence in Central Asia by providing innovative products that meet sustainable development goals and regional operational needs. The launch of CKD6H not only reflects CRRC's leading position in technological innovation, but also injects new impetus into the modernization of Kazakhstan's railways.
