On April 25, the Busan Transportation Corporation announced that it had signed a business agreement with China's WeChat Pay to open the Busan Metro mobile ticket purchase service on the WeChat Korea mini program. Now, you can use WeChat Pay to buy tickets for all subway lines in Busan.

The Busan Metro mobile ticketing service is designed to be easily used within the existing WeChat system without the need to install a separate app. Passengers only need to select a ticket through the WeChat mini program, pay, generate a QR code and scan the code at the turnstiles, and then they can easily take the bus.

This cooperation is the first time that a global digital payment platform has been connected with the automation system of a subway station in South Korea, which is of great significance in the field of public transportation. As a representative mobile payment service in China, the use of WeChat Pay continues to expand, and the number of offline payments in South Korea is expected to more than double in 2024 compared to 2019. In particular, the use of WeChat Pay is growing rapidly in major tourist destinations such as Seoul, Busan, and Jeju, and the ZeroPay system, which operates nationwide, has also supported WeChat Pay.

In South Korea, since April 2023, WeChat Pay has launched an exclusive WeChat mini-program in cooperation with the Korea Railway Corporation to provide Chinese tourists with one-stop services such as train inquiry, seat selection, payment, and ticket confirmation. In Japan, WeChat Pay is also partnering with Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd., Tokyo Metro, Tokyo Metropolitan Transportation Bureau, and others to support Chinese tourists in purchasing subway tickets conveniently.

In addition, in order to celebrate the official launch of WeChat Pay service and encourage users to use it, a three-month 7% discount will be launched.
