Vietnamese steelmaker Hoa Phat Group has started construction of a new plant that will produce railroad tracks and other high-quality steel products.
The company invested VND14 trillion (about US$556 million) to build a new factory located in Dong Phpu 2 Industrial Park, Khanh Hoa Province, Central Province. Production will focus on steel types and products that have not been previously produced in Vietnam, including railway tracks.
Huatai Group recently signed a contract with Primetals Technologies to purchase high-quality steel casting and rolling lines with a total annual production capacity of 500,000 tons. The rolling line is expected to be commissioned in the fall of next year, and the casting line will be up by the end of the year. The complete production line includes large cross-section billet casting modules for the production of railway tracks, as well as beam billet modules for the production of structural steel, targeting the domestic construction and engineering industries.
Huatai Group said that its dependence on the U.S. market is extremely low, with only 1% of international shipments to the U.S., and has diversified export markets, covering more than 40 countries and regions such as Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the European Union.
