Rail Transit Exhibition News Colombia news, Siemens selected the GMV SAE-R® operation management system to provide intelligent scheduling solutions for the "No. 80 Metro" modern tram project in Medellin, Colombia. The project marks an important milestone in GMV's history, not only as its first entry into the Colombian public transport market, but also as its first strategic partnership with global transportation giants Siemens and CRRC. Through this partnership, GMV has successfully expanded its network of partners in the field of rail mobility to more internationally renowned vehicle manufacturers, joining industry leaders such as Alstom, CAF, Stadler, Pesa and Targo.
The partnership was identified through a rigorous private bidding process, with Siemens awarding key technology contracts, including operational assistance systems and service planning systems, to GMV. As part of the overall planning of the project, the Aburra Valley Public Transport Company (Medellín Metro) entrusted the civil works and train procurement project to the "Metro Consortium 80", with CRRC Co., Ltd. assuming the core task of train manufacturing and supply. As an important supplier of the consortium, Siemens Mobility is mainly responsible for key technologies such as power supply and signaling systems.
The modern tram project, known as Metro Line 80 or Eco-City on Line E, will run from the north to the south of the city along Avenue 80, the main axis of the city in the western part of the city, forming a green transportation artery that runs through the city. With a total planned length of 13.25 kilometers and 17 modern stations, the project is expected to be officially opened to the public in 2028 and become an important infrastructure project to promote the sustainable development of Medellín city.
GMV's cutting-edge technology will be fully applied to 20 modern dual-cab trains manufactured by CRRC, each of which will be equipped with advanced on-board computers, human-computer interactive driving interfaces and beacon readers, and will be equipped with supporting beacon systems along the tracks. In addition, the project also includes in-depth customized software development to ensure that the technical solution perfectly meets the special operational needs of Metro 80, especially the real-time intelligent decision support system for passenger flow changes and emergencies, and comprehensively improves the safety of line operation and emergency response capabilities.
To achieve full synergy, SAE-R® will be seamlessly integrated with several key systems, including the main clock system of the train and control center, the on-board and platform passenger information display system, the central traffic control system (CTC), and the train control and monitoring system (TCMS). In addition, GMV will provide an open service information channel through international standard interfaces such as SIRI and JMS, ensuring easy integration with third-party applications and laying the foundation for future smart mobility service expansion.
