Empresa de Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE) recently announced that five new trains are currently under construction in China, which will be used to enhance rail transit services in the Valparaiso area.
It is reported that the trains, which are manufactured by CRRC Sifang, have high standards of safety, energy efficiency and ride comfort. The new trains will be designed in three-car formations, with a capacity of 660 passengers and a design top speed of 140 kilometers per hour.
At present, important progress has been made in the assembly of this batch of trains. According to EFE's plan, these trains are expected to arrive in Chile in the second half of 2025, which will significantly increase the local rail capacity and improve the commuting experience.
