On April 18, 2025, during a visit to the headquarters of CRRC in Beijing, the governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting the construction of a train maintenance center in Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and implementing several initiatives to modernize the state's railway system.
CRRC, a global leader in rail transit equipment manufacturing, also plans to invest in a train manufacturing plant in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The governor said the state government will launch a study to assess the need to procure new trains.
Governor Castro said: "Our partnership with CRRC reinforces our commitment to the future of mobility in Rio. With CRRC's advanced technology and experience, we are able to provide people with more modern, safe and efficient solutions. In the coming months, CRRC will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the rail system, including the number of trains and improvements to the station's signaling system. ”
The partnership aims not only to expand the fleet and modernize the rail network, but also to create jobs, facilitate technology transfer, and strengthen Brazil's rail chain. Currently, CRRC has supplied 134 trains to the rail system in Rio de Janeiro, of which 100 are for SuperVia and 34 serve Metrô Rio. CRRC's business covers not only train manufacturing, but also project development, testing, commissioning and maintenance of trains and locomotives.
