CRRC launched the Eurasian Economic Union market certification and entered the 1520 mm gauge market

According to the Rail Transit Exhibition, CRRC launched the certification of its locomotives in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in April this year. The Russian authorities have issued certificates for CRRC's CKD6S and CKD9C systems.

The Russian certification body issued a five-year declaration of compliance with CRRC Locomotive in accordance with the technical regulations "TR TS 001/2011". CRRC's Ziyang plant is responsible for the production of these locomotives, and the applicant is iCan.

CRRC Ziyang Plant actively promotes certification

Since the beginning of this year, CRRC Ziyang Plant has been actively promoting certification within the Eurasian Economic Union. KazRailLocomotive in Kazakhstan has obtained more than 15 certification documents for locomotive components.

CKD6S and CKD9C locomotives are adapted to 1520 mm gauge

KazRailLocomotive has completed series production certification for components such as axles, wheel hoops and brake cylinders. However, full certification of the CKD6S and CKD9C locomotives in the region is still ongoing.
Last year, the CKD6S locomotive for shunting arrived in Kazakhstan under a major contract. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the state railway company of Kazakhstan, is improving transport efficiency by updating its locomotive fleet.
The CKD9C locomotive used in the main line arrived in Kazakhstan between 2012 and 2014. Currently, the private operator Silkway Transit operates 16 locomotives of this model.

China expands its presence in the EAEU market

ACCORDING TO A FEBRUARY REPORT BY ROLLINGSTOCK ANALYSTS, CHINA'S INFLUENCE ON RAILWAY EQUIPMENT IN THE EURASIAN ECONOMIC UNION MARKET IS GROWING, AND KAZAKHSTAN HAS BECOME A MAJOR ENTRY POINT FOR CHINESE TECHNOLOGY INTO THE REGION.
In the first quarter of 2024, Kazakhstan issued a total of 58 certificates and declarations of compliance, of which 43 (74%) were related to Chinese products.

CRRC strengthens its position and promotes the modernization of regional railways

CRRC continues to strengthen its position in the EAEU market by increasing parts deliveries, with the goal of modernizing the region's rail infrastructure. Kazakhstan actively supports cooperation with China, and this partnership accelerates the development of local transport. A renewed fleet of locomotives has significantly improved regional logistics efficiency.
The CKD6S locomotive has proven its reliability on the 1520 mm gauge line, while the CKD9C locomotive is still in high demand among private transport companies in Kazakhstan.

Experts predict that the supply of Chinese railway equipment to the EAEU will continue to grow in the coming years. CRRC plans to further expand its market share by 2030. The advancement of certification has opened up new opportunities for Chinese manufacturers in the region, while competition among railway equipment suppliers is intensifying.
Kazakhstan is rapidly modernizing its rail network by working with China, but other EAEU countries are lagging behind in this regard.
