Chongqing Rail Transit Elevator Renovation Project Won the "Elevator World Engineering Award"

Recently, the "2025 Elevator World Engineering Award" selected by a jury composed of more than 30 industry experts from around the world using a rigorous multi-dimensional evaluation system was released, and the elevator renovation project of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 won this international award.

The award is the highest award in the global elevator industry, has been selected for 27 sessions, and the previous winners are all benchmark projects with global influence, such as the Burj Khalifa elevator group in Dubai, the transportation hub of the World Trade Center in New York, etc., and the selected projects are classics in the field of global elevators.

The pinnacle of 4.1% prize rate

In 2025, a total of 217 projects from around the world will be evaluated, divided into 9 categories, and 1 best project will be selected in each category, with a winning rate of only 4.1%. The renovation project of Line 2 won the escalator and modernization renewal awards, which is the only rail transit project among the nine award-winning projects, filling the gap in the international awards of China's urban rail transit elevator engineering, and marking that China's urban rail transit facilities renewal technology ranks among the world's top ranks. This is the first time that China's urban rail transit industry has won the "Elevator World Engineering Award", and Chongqing has also become the first city in western China to receive this award.

The "non-sense" rebirth of 119 elevators

The renovation project of Line 2 involves 18 stations and 119 elevators in the section from Jiaochangkou Station to Xinshan Village Station, affecting the convenient travel of more than 600,000 passengers/day.

The renewal and upgrading of elevators under the state of "zero perception" of passengers benefits from the application of new technologies and new processes. Relying on 3D laser scanning and ultrasonic flaw detection technology, the Line 2 renovation project was upgraded by replacing only worn core components without damaging the original frame of the elevator, thus reducing downtime to less than (or equal to) 6 hours per elevator, and most of the renovation work could be completed at night, minimizing the impact of construction. Compared with the traditional transformation method, the new technology also reduces steel consumption and saves about 12 million yuan.

Open a new era of elevator operation and maintenance

The transformed elevator is connected to the Internet of Things platform, which can monitor the operation status of the elevator and the life of parts in real time around the clock, which further enhances the reliability and stability of equipment operation. The elevator also adds barrier-free facilities and adopts a variety of green energy-saving technologies, so that the energy in the operation of the elevator will be recovered and converted into clean electricity, which can improve the travel experience of passengers while achieving energy saving and consumption reduction.

In addition, the Line 2 renovation project has broken the traditional maintenance mechanism in the industry, forming a new model of urban rail transit facilities upgrading - the project involves large differences in product specifications and many brands, Chongqing Rail Group through market-oriented bidding and supply chain collaborative management, breaking the monopoly maintenance model of the original factory in the elevator industry, and reducing the comprehensive cost by 34% compared with the traditional model, providing a new paradigm of intensive transformation for the industry, and also creating opportunities for domestic supply chain enterprises.

The "China Plan" has successfully been launched to sea

At present, the innovative achievements of the Line 2 reconstruction project have been applied to the Ramadan 10th City Railway in Egypt, a landmark project of the "Belt and Road" jointly built by China and Egypt, realizing the first time that the construction technology system of China's elevator project has entered the African market.

In the face of the new trend of urban development and the new expectations of the people, Chongqing Rail Group has taken the initiative to integrate into urban renewal actions to help build a livable, resilient and smart city.
