In order to allow more visitors to Hong Kong to travel by MTR and have more payment options, the MTR announced today (14th) that from March 22 (Saturday), it will add a new "National Transportation Card" as a fare payment tool for taking the heavy rail network.
The newly added "National Transportation Card" is an interconnection card that can be used to pay for various means of transportation in more than 300 cities across the country, and the card face is printed with the "Transportation Union" logo. Starting from next Saturday (22nd), there will be at least 2 entry and exit gates at each station of the MTR Heavy Rail network (except Airport Express stations), equipped with the "National Transport All-in-One Card" payment function. These turnstiles are marked with the "Transport Union" sign, and passengers can enter and exit the gates by tapping the "National Transport Card" on the Octopus reader at the turnstiles.
The automatic toll collection system at the MTR access gates now supports Octopus, QR code tickets, contactless credit cards and physical and electronic one-way tickets.Ms Yeung Mei-chun, Managing Director of MTR Passenger Services in Hong Kong, said that by providing more payment options and diversified services, it will facilitate different passengers, including visitors, to make use of the comprehensive MTR network to travel freely and experience the charm of Hong Kong.
