The E10 Series has a number of upgrades in terms of passenger experience:
Some seats will be equipped with wider armrests and tables, as well as additional dividers to enhance privacy and reduce noise.
All seats are equipped with power outlets to meet the charging needs of passengers;
The doors of some carriages have been widened to improve the loading and unloading efficiency of large luggage;
The interior of the carriage provides more space for luggage storage, improving the convenience of long-distance travel.
The E10 series features significant improvements in safety technology, including a new earthquake avoidance system that can quickly shut down when an earthquake is detected, improving emergency response capabilities. In addition, the shock absorbers have been optimized to reduce the sway of trains caused by earthquakes, while reducing the risk of derailment and improving driving safety.
The E10 series will feature an intelligent maintenance system that monitors the status of train components in real time and replaces them if necessary to reduce maintenance costs and increase train availability. The train will also be equipped with a self-ventilating induction traction motor, which is the first time that it has been used on a Shinkansen train that has officially entered production. In addition, the introduction of silicon carbide (SiC) components into the drive inverter can effectively improve energy efficiency.
The E10 series trains have reserved the technical conditions for the realization of unmanned driving in the future, laying the foundation for the automated operation of the Tohoku Shinkansen.
Currently, the project is in the design implementation stage, and JR East plans to start trial train testing in the fall of 2027.
