The launch of the network is a key milestone in Saudi Vision 2030, which will significantly enhance the city's infrastructure and prepare it for hosting world-class events.
The Riyadh Metro is the core component of Riyadh's Public Transport (RPT), a well-designed and efficient system designed to serve both residents and visitors, including metro lines, buses, feeders, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), on-demand buses, and park-and-ride facilities.
The other three lines, the Red Line, the Green Line, and the Orange Line, are scheduled to open on December 6. The four iconic main stations will include: King Abdullah International Financial District (KAFD), Saudi Telecom, Hakem Palace and West.
His Excellency Ibrahim Bin Mohammed Sultan, Secretary of State, Member of the Council of Ministers and Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Railways (RCRC), said: "Today, Riyadh is reaping the fruits of a project that will reshape the image of the city and redefine the way it travels. The network is in line with Riyadh's economic, social, environmental and urban development goals and marks a historic milestone in the field of urban mobility. The Riyadh Metro will dramatically improve the daily commuting experience for citizens, residents and tourists, providing them with world-class urban mobility services. "
The project is equipped with a total of 183 trains with a total of 448 cars, manufactured by three of the world's leading train manufacturers: Siemens of Germany, Bombardier of Canada and Alstom of France, and designed by Avant Premiere.
The Riyadh Metro exemplifies Saudi Arabia's commitment to sustainable urban development, aiming to reduce pollution and meet transportation needs. In line with global sustainability standards, the metro network incorporates eco-friendly practices, with stations built using 20% recycled materials and local resources, and optimally designed for energy and water use. Both King Abdullah International Financial District and Hakem Palace have been awarded LEED Gold certification, demonstrating international standards in sustainable design and execution.
