Rail Transit Exhibition News Recently, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Surya revealed in an interview that at present, the 20 baht policy of the whole line promoted by the BTS purple line and red line pilot in Bangkok has won unanimous praise from the public. As a result, the Ministry of Transport plans to submit a proposal to the Cabinet by November 30 to extend the policy to the entire rail transit system. According to the procedure, it is expected that by September 2025, all lines of the Bangkok rail transit system will achieve 20 baht for the whole line.
Surya said that at present, the relevant departments are actively promoting the review of the draft "Ticketing Law", which is expected to be discussed in the December session of the National Assembly. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport plans to set up an infrastructure fund with the Ministry of Finance to attract investors to help the government buy rail transit concessions worth 200 billion yuan, so as to reformulate cheaper and fairer fares. In addition, the Ministry of Transport will also learn from foreign rail transit operation models, and levy handling fees on congested road sections such as Sukhumvit Road, Silom Road, and Ratchada Road, so that people can use the collected fees to purchase rail transit concessions while encouraging people to switch to rail transit.
It is reported that at the beginning of the plan to levy a fee for congested road sections, 40-50 baht will be charged per vehicle, and the number of cars collected per day is expected to reach 700,000, with a total fee of 35 million baht. After 5 years, the specific standard of the fee will be adjusted according to the actual situation.
