Lagos Light Rail Blue Line has been in safe operation for one year

Rail Transit Exhibition News On September 4, when the world-renowned Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit was successfully held, the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line, constructed and operated by China Civil Engineering Nigeria Co., Ltd., ushered in an important milestone of one year of safe operation, and presented its outstanding operating results to the successful convening of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit.

Project Introduction

The first phase of the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line is 13 kilometers long, including an 8.1-kilometer viaduct (530 meters of which is a sea-crossing bridge), 5 stations, and a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour. This is the first full-industry chain electrified urban light rail transportation project in West Africa that is independently designed, built, constructed and operated by a Chinese company.

Operational status

Since the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line was officially put into operation on September 4, 2023, it has safely transported a total of 1.72 million passengers, demonstrating its outstanding performance in safety, efficiency and reliability. It also provides Lagos citizens with a more convenient and comfortable travel option, effectively alleviating the urban traffic pressure in Lagos. At the same time, as the result of Nigeria's development of new quality productivity, the construction and operation of the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line has stimulated the economic vitality of the areas along the line, significantly reduced carbon emissions, and effectively promoted the green development of Lagos.
