On May 29, local time, the signing ceremony of the northern axis project of the Sao Paulo Intercity Railway in Brazil was held in Campinas. Witnessed by Sun Yongcai, Chairman of CRRC, and Yu Peng, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in São Paulo, the Governor of São Paulo, Tacisio, on behalf of the state government, officially authorized the signing of the concession contract for the North Axis of the Intercity Railway. Li Zheng, Chief Financial Officer of CRRC, Shao Yingjun, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, Chairman of CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd., Chairman of CRRC Hong Kong, as well as representatives of the São Paulo State Government and partners attended the signing ceremony and delivered speeches.

The northern axis of the São Paulo Intercity Railway connects the three metropolitan areas of São Paulo, Jundiaí and Campinas, with a total length of 101 kilometers, and is divided into intercity railway (TIC) lines, intercity railways (TIM) lines and metro line 7 according to speed classes and operating sections.

The scope of the project includes infrastructure renovation and new construction of the above three lines, rolling stock retrofit and new purchase, as well as project operation and maintenance.

CRRC will provide multi-system life-cycle solutions for the project, such as electric units (17 trains are expected to be purchased), communication signals, power supply systems, and depot equipment. This project is the largest passenger rail transit franchise project in Brazil to date, and the largest "System+" (DLS) project that CRRC has received so far. When completed, the project will be the fastest and most modern intercity railway in Brazil, benefiting about 15 million people in 11 municipalities and creating more than 10,500 jobs.

The signing of the São Paulo Intercity Railway North Axis Project is a strategic project to improve the level of rail transit in São Paulo State, marking the entry of São Paulo and Campinas into the same city era. Yu Peng, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in São Paulo, said in his speech that the project is a key infrastructure project in São Paulo State, which will meet the urgent needs of people in surrounding cities for convenient and green transportation, create tens of thousands of jobs, and become an important engine to promote local economic development. The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in São Paulo expects CRRC to demonstrate the excellent strength and quality pursuit of Chinese enterprises, and work together with Brazilian partners to build the project into a landmark demonstration project of pragmatic cooperation between the State of São Paulo and China.

In his speech, the governor of the state of São Paulo, Tacisio, said that the project is one of the most important projects of the current administration, which will reduce travel times, bring a comfortable travel experience, improve commuting and reduce emissions. At the same time, Tacisio also announced the launch of the "São Paulo Rail Plan", a master plan for rail transit with a total length of more than 890 kilometers, including the eastern axis of the São Paulo Intercity Railway (São Paulo to São José dos Campos) and the southern axis (São Paulo to Santos), the Campinas light railway, the Soracaba light rail and other projects.
