Shanghai Songjiang Station is an important part of the Songjiang hub, which is the largest station among the eight stations along the Shanghai-Suzhou-Lake high-speed railway line and the Shanghai-Kunming railway line expanded to the north on the basis of the original Songjiang South Railway station. The waiting hall of the new station building is an elevated waiting hall, with a station scale of 7 sets of 19 lines, plus 2 sets of 4 lines of the original Songjiang South Station, with a total scale of 9 sets of 23 lines, with a maximum design of 5,000 people and an estimated annual passenger flow of 25 million people. The Songjiang hub includes the Shanghai-Suzhou-Lake high-speed railway, the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway and the Shanghai-Kunming railway, connecting more than 80% of the cities in the Yangtze River Delta. Construction is currently being accelerated, and it is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2024.

At present, Songjiang District is making every effort to build the southwest gateway hub of Shanghai - "Songjiang Hub" around Shanghai Songjiang Station, which will effectively play the role of a hub for the Yangtze River Delta, promote the comprehensive development and utilization of the surrounding space in the southern area of Songjiang New Town, drive and activate the improvement of regional functions, and build a landmark gateway functional area integrating "comprehensive transportation, science and technology film city, modern business, cultural tourism, and modern logistics". In accordance with the concept of "station-city integration and industry-city integration", a landmark core agglomeration area will be formed, the "same city effect" in the high-speed rail era will be brought into play, the radiation and driving capacity of the Songjiang hub will be comprehensively enhanced, and an important growth pole and strategic space will be created in the southwest of Shanghai.

It is reported that the passenger bus line with the departure station located in the existing Songjiang South Station will be adjusted at the same time, and the subway station of Songjiang South Station of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 9 is preparing to be renamed.

At the same time, in order to avoid misunderstanding between the existing Shanghai-Kunming Railway Songjiang Station and Shanghai Songjiang Station, the Songjiang Station of the Shanghai-Kunming Railway was renamed Songjiang North Station on May 22.
