Rail Transit Exhibition News Melbourne Metro trains have successfully tested the High Capacity Signalling System (HCS) in the new 9km Melbourne Metro Tunnel. The project is expected to open in 2025, one year earlier than originally planned.
The CBTC system, installed by a rail system consortium comprising CPB contractors, Alstom and Melbourne Metro trains, will allow trains to pass through the new tunnel at a frequency of every three minutes.
During the test, metro trains ran 18 times per hour between West Footscray and Hawksburn, with some running every two minutes.
Last fall, HCS successfully retrofitted the existing Cranburn and Packenham suburban lines.
