On March 29, the opening ceremony of the Suseo-Dongtan section of Line A of the South Korean Capital Area Rapid Rail (GTX) was held at Suseo Station in Gangnam District, Seoul, and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol attended the opening ceremony. The express train will be officially put into operation on the 30th, and the commuting time will be shortened to 20 minutes.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said at the opening ceremony of the Suseo-Dongtan section of the Metropolitan Area Rapid Rail Transit (GTX) Line A that the GTX-A line will bring revolutionary changes to life and urban competitiveness.
Yoon Suk-yeol said that today is a milestone for mass transportation in South Korea, comparable to when the Gyeongbu Expressway was opened in 1970 and KTX (high-speed rail) in 2004. It takes more than 80 minutes to take a wide area bus from Shuixi to Dongtan, and it will be shortened to 20 minutes by taking the GTX-A line, making people's daily life more comfortable and spending more time with their families.
Yoon Suk-yeol said that if the GTX-A line is fully opened, industrial hubs in Gyeonggi Province, such as Unjeong Techno-Valley in Paju, Korea International Exhibition and Convention Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan in Goyang-yang, Pangyo Techno Valley, and Yongin Semiconductor Industrial Complex, will be connected to help attract talented people and attract investment.
Yoon Suk-yeol said that the government will also reduce the ticket price to 2,000~3,000 won (about 11 to 16 yuan) through the "K-PASS" (a partial refund of the amount paid by citizens who take public transportation more than 15 times a month) and discounts for the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and meritorious people.
Yoon Suk-yeol stressed that the government will take the opening of the GTX-A line as an opportunity to make the rapid rail network cover all parts of the country. The government plans to open the GTX-C line connecting Yangju to Suwon in Gyeonggi Province and the GTX-B line between Incheon and Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province by 2028 and 2030, respectively. He also pledged that the government will strive for the smooth implementation of the local Wide Area Express (x-TX) project, which aims to provide fast-line level services to Daejeon and Chungcheong-gu, Daegu and Gyeongbuk districts.
