75 minutes! Guangzhou Metro will directly reach the center of Shenzhen city

Improve the layout of the intercity railway network in the Greater Bay Area and accelerate the construction of the "Greater Bay Area on the track". On the morning of February 25th, at the construction site of the 16 Chong working shaft of the Nanzhu (Central) intercity project, the Guangzhou Metro joint construction unit held a centralized launching ceremony for five shield tunneling machines. With the sound of a cannon, five shield tunneling machines set off together, marking the peak period of shield tunneling construction in the Wanqingsha to Erchong section of the Nanzhu (Central) intercity railway.

75 minutes! Guangzhou Metro will directly reach the center of Shenzhen (Figure 1)

After the completion of the Nanzhu (Central) Intercity Railway, it will be connected and operated with Guangzhou Metro Line 18, Guanghua Intercity Railway, and Fangbai Intercity Railway. In the long term, it will also connect with the Shenzhen South Intercity Railway, facilitating convenient travel for citizens of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.

The acceleration of intercity construction in Nanzhu (Central) will accelerate the formation of the "one network, one ticket, one chain of cities" rail transit network in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, connecting Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhongzhu, achieving a "seamless connection" between intercity railways and subways.

The Nanzhu (Central) Intercity Railway is one of the 18 recent construction projects approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in August 2020 for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Intercity Railway Construction Plan. It is divided into two sections: east and west, with the western section leading to Zhongshan and the eastern section connecting to Zhuhai.

It is understood that the Nanzhu (Central) Intercity Railway is the first rail transit project that can achieve interconnection between the Greater Bay Area Intercity Railway and the Guangzhou Metro network. Its northern starting point is Wanqingsha Station, which is connected to Guangzhou Metro Line 18 Wanqingsha Station. The person in charge of Guangzhou Metro stated, "After the project is completed, Guangzhou Metro will achieve 'four network integration' and achieve autonomous operation of intercity railway public transportation."

In the long term, the South Zhuhai (Central) Intercity Railway will also connect and operate with the Shenzhen South Intercity Railway, which means that Guangzhou citizens can directly reach the center of Shenzhen through the Guangzhou Metro.

The relevant person in charge of Guangzhou Metro said: "According to our calculation, the travel time from Guangzhou downtown to Zhongshan downtown, Zhuhai downtown and Shenzhen downtown is about 50 minutes, 60 minutes and 75 minutes respectively. The completion of the project will bring more convenient and faster transportation for residents on both sides of the the Pearl River, and help the urban economic construction of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area."
