It is ranked first in Asia and second in the world, achieving the latest breakthrough in Wuhan!

At 9:58 am on May 30, the first shield section of Wuhan Rail Transit Line 12 across the Yangtze River was successfully completed, adding another "artery" across the Yangtze River.

Wuhan Metro Line 12, with a total length of about 59.9 kilometers, is the longest urban subway loop in Asia and the second in the world. 

The newly connected tunnel has a length of 3373.667 meters, with the deepest point being 51.7 meters from the bottom of the Yangtze River, and can withstand a water pressure of 0.5 megapascals. The "Jiangcheng Pioneer" large slurry shield machine with a diameter of 12.56 meters was used in the project, which is also the first time that Wuhan Metro has used a domestically produced large-diameter shield machine to cross the Yangtze River.

The geological conditions at the bottom of the river are complex, and the total length of highly viscous formations such as mudstone, which are recognized as difficult to excavate in the industry, is about 2200 meters. According to calculations, the average excavation efficiency of the project in mudstone formations is nearly 10 meters per day, reaching the leading level in the industry. This also confirms that China's shield tunneling equipment manufacturing and shield tunneling engineering level have reached the international advanced level.

Wuhan Metro has successfully crossed the Yangtze River with four lines, including Line 2, Line 4, Line 7, and Line 8. The successful completion of the section between Lingwu Village Station and National Expo Center South Station on Line 12 marks the fifth time that Wuhan Metro has crossed the Yangtze River.

The successful completion of this project was nearly 4 months ahead of schedule, laying a solid foundation for the completion and opening of the entire Line 12. Once Line 12 is completed, it will connect 7 central urban areas of Wuhan and transfer to 26 stations on 18 lines, effectively promoting the coordinated development of Wuhan's main urban area and surrounding areas, injecting new impetus into the city's economic growth.
